CMAT eligibility is set by the conducting body NTA (National Testing Agency) to screen those candidates who can appear for the exam and can take admission in the CMAT affiliated institutes.

CMAT Eligibility Criteria: The CMAT 2020 is a national level entrance examination and is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Till 2018 it was conducted by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). NTA will release the 2020 eligibility criteria needed to register for the CMAT exam 2020, in order to get admission in all AICTE-Approved Institutions/University Departments/Constituent Colleges/Affiliated Colleges has.

CMAT Eligibility Criteria 2020: Points to Remember

  1. As per AICTE, there is non-disclosure of the percentage of reservation for different categories.
  2. There are following categories may be applicable to various AICTE approved colleges that are eligible to apply for the CMAT exam 2020-
  3. Scheduled Caste (SC)
  4. Scheduled Tribes (ST)
  5. Other Backward Classes (OBC)
  6. Physically Handicapped (PH)
  7. Kashmiri Migrant (KM) 
  8. Female category
  9. Defense Persons category

3.   The AICTE participating institutes will have different guidelines according to category and the directions of their corresponding State Government. Candidates must make a note of it.

4.    The reservation of seats will also depend on the creamy and non – creamy layer for the for OBC candidates through CMAT 2020. It will depend on whichever category the OBC candidate falls into.

5.   Candidates with no less than 40% of the below disabilities are defined by AICTE as PWD (Person with Disability) candidates:

  • Visually impaired
  • Physically handicapped 
  • Hearing Impairment
  • Dumb

  • CMAT 2020 is expected to be scheduled in the last week of January 2020 in CBT mode.
  • The official CMAT Exam Dates will be released in the data release @ntacmat.nic.in.

Update: Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) is a national level entrance examination for entry into management programs. Till 2018, it was conducted by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) every year. From 2018, the test is conducted by NTA.

  • CMAT is a three-hour computer-based online test, conducted to evaluate aspiring candidates' ability and capability in Quantitative Technique, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension, and General Awareness.
  • This test facilitates institutions to choose appropriate alumnicandidates for admission in all management programs.
  • CMAT Score is acknowledged by all AICTE-Approved Institutions/University Departments/Constituent Colleges/Affiliated Colleges.
  • Registrants will be issued their CMAT Admit Card from the first week of January @ ntacmat.nic.in.

  • Other Backward Classes: (OBC–NCL) are as per the Central list of Other Backward Classes available on National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC), Government of India website ncbc.nic. Thus, the candidates falling in this list may make the reference to OBC in the category column. State list OBC candidates who are not in OBC-NCL (Central List) must pick General category.

  5. Multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses (i) to (iv)
  6. Other ‘specified disabilities’ mentioned in the Schedule of the RPwD Act 2016.

Documents for CMAT 2020 Reservation

For seeking the benefits of CMAT 2020 Reservation under Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled tribe (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC), Physically Handicapped (PH), Kashmiri Migrant (KM), the girl child category and Defense Persons category, the candidate must submit the required certificates and documents:

  • Caste Certificate
  • Dependent Certificate
  • Income Certificate
  • Proformas and so on, whichever applicable, according to the guidelines of the particular college/ institute.

Without adequate documentary proof, no candidate will be given any advantages of reservation of seats.

Once the category is specified by the candidate at the time of submitting CMAT Application form, along with documentary proof, it will not be changed afterward in any case. Hence, the candidate must go through and understand the conditions of reservation of seats carefully before applying.

Ques. What are the eligibility conditions for a pursuer/reader defined by AICTE?

Ans. The candidate must fulfill the following conditions to be eligible for a scribe:

  1. Is not a family member or a friend.
  2. Is not involved in any academic tutoring or preparation for the test to be administered.
  3. Has not completed 19 years of age as of January 20, 2020. 
  4. Educational qualification must be lower than that of the CMAT applicant.

Note: The age certificate/DOB certificate of Scribe has to be presented at the CMAT Test Center

Ques. Can I appear for CMAT just for practice, though I am aware that I am not eligible for the exam?

Ans. No, only candidates who meet the CMAT eligibility qualification criteria can appear for the test.

Ques. Who is eligible to take the test under the PWD category?

Ans. Candidate suffering from any of the listed disabilities to the degree of at least 40% as affirmed by a medical expert will be considered under PWD classification. Following are the categories characterized by AICTE for PWD candidates:
