About CMAT Exam

Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) is a national-level computer-based entrance examination conducted by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) under the guidance of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. It is one of the most important MBA/PGDM entrance exams in India, accepted by around 1000 B-Schools across the country.

Previously, CMAT was conducted twice a year, but now it is held once annually. The test is conducted across multiple centers nationwide. Candidates can select up to three test centers in their preferred order. The exam timing is from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, with the reporting time at 8:00 AM.

Exam Pattern

CMAT is a computer-based exam conducted over 3 hours (180 minutes). The exam consists of four sections, each carrying 25 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). The total exam is worth 400 marks. The sections are:

Quantitative Techniques
Logical Reasoning
General Awareness
Language Comprehension

For each correct answer, candidates are awarded 4 marks, while for each incorrect answer, 1 mark is deducted.

A trial test is available on the CMAT official website for candidates to get accustomed to the computer-based format before the actual exam day.

CMAT Counselling Process

Based on CMAT results, candidates can apply to AICTE-approved institutes, departments, constituent colleges, and affiliated colleges offering PGDM, MBA, PGCM, and Executive PGDM programs. The CMAT scores are valid for one year.

Since numerous colleges accept CMAT scores, the selection process varies across institutions. However, the general admission criteria include:

Shortlisting based on college cutoffs, scores, or ranks
Written Ability Test (WAT)
Group Discussion (GD)
Personal Interview (PI)
