Association of Indian Universities (AIU) acts as the representative of universities of India. It is based in Delhi. The AIU is mainly concerned with the recognition of Degrees/Diplomas awarded by the Universities in India, which are recognized by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi, and abroad for the purpose of admission to higher degree courses in universities of India. AIUincludes traditional universities, open universities, professional universities, Institutes of National Importance and deemed-to-be universities.
Objectives of AIU:-
- To serve as an Inter-University Organization.
- To help universities to maintain their autonomous character.
- To assist universities in obtaining recognition for their degrees, diplomas and examinations from other universities, Indian as well as foreign.
- To maintain coordination amongst universities.
- To give assistance to universities in obtaining recognition for their degrees, diplomas and examinations from other Indian as well as foreign universities
