Know Key Changes in SNAP Exam Pattern: Non-MCQs Introduced

Share SNAP Exam Pattern Overview

The SNAP notification has been released, and the exam has been scheduled. The registration process is already underway, and candidates must complete the registration before the deadline. Aspirants aiming to appear for the exam should be well-versed with the updated exam pattern and syllabus to maximize their chances of success. Earlier, SNAP was conducted in the conventional pen-and-paper mode, but it transitioned to an online format a few years ago.

In line with the recent announcement of the application process, the authorities have introduced a few changes to the SNAP exam pattern. Let’s take a closer look at the key changes:

Important Changes in SNAP Exam Pattern:

  1. Total Number of Questions Reduced: Previously, candidates had to attempt a total of 150 questions. However, the number has now been reduced to 130. Despite the reduction in the number of questions, the duration of the exam remains unchanged at 2 hours. Candidates will now need to complete 130 questions within the given time.

  2. Introduction of Non-MCQs: One of the most notable changes is the introduction of 20 non-multiple-choice questions out of the total 130 questions. The remaining 110 questions are multiple-choice questions (MCQs), divided into four equal parts. While MCQs are evaluated as regular questions, non-MCQs are referred to as special questions. These special questions do not have answer options, and candidates must type their answers using a virtual keyboard.

  3. Change in Scoring Pattern: Unlike the IIM-CAT exam, which does not have negative marking for non-MCQs, the SNAP scoring scheme has a 25% negative marking for both MCQs and non-MCQs. Despite the changes, the maximum score remains the same at 150 marks. The modified scoring pattern is as follows:

Section Questions Total Marks General English (Reading Comprehension, Verbal Reasoning, Verbal Ability) Normal Questions: 30, Special Questions: 5, Total: 35 40 Quantitative, Data Interpretation & Data Sufficiency Normal Questions: 30, Special Questions: 5, Total: 35 40 Analytical & Logical Reasoning Normal Questions: 30, Special Questions: 5, Total: 35 40 Current Affairs Normal Questions: 20, Special Questions: 5, Total: 25 30

  1. Reduced Test Centers: The number of SNAP test centers has been reduced from 102 to 92. Candidates are advised to select their preferred test centers carefully and apply early to secure their choice.

Additional Key Points to Note:

  • There will be no individual sectional cut-off.
  • Sections can appear in any order during the exam.
  • No sectional time limits will be imposed.
  • Candidates can switch between different sections without any restrictions.

Candidates aspiring to appear for SNAP should complete their registration well before the deadline to avoid any last-minute issues. Admit cards will be issued only to those who register successfully.
