XAT Result Analysis: How Low Scores Translated into High Percentiles

The latest XAT result analysis indicates that candidates with scores ranging between 22 to 35 have secured high percentiles, with many being shortlisted by XLRI. The cut-offs for other top B-schools are also available for reference.

XLRI has announced its cut-offs for various PGDM programs, with candidates scoring 96 percentile being shortlisted for the flagship PGDM-BM program. Individual notifications will be sent to shortlisted candidates shortly.

No Candidate Achieved a 100 Percentile

Unlike other management entrance exams, XAT does not award a perfect 100 percentile. The highest scorer has been placed at 99.9+, as per the unique percentile calculation method used in the exam. An official from XAT clarified, “Our percentile calculation is slightly different, and the topper does not score a hundred percentile.”

No Negative Percentile in XAT

Another key feature of the XAT results is that no candidate has received a negative percentile. As per the XAT authorities, all candidates have secured positive percentiles due to the unique score normalization process.

Early Declaration of Results

Initially scheduled to be announced at a later date, XAT results were declared ahead of schedule. This early release allowed candidates to assess their performance sooner and plan their next steps accordingly.

XAT Scoring Pattern and Changes

The XAT exam is divided into two parts, with the first part consisting of three sections:

• Verbal Ability (VA)
• Decision Making (DM)
• Quantitative Ability (QA)

A total of 72 multiple-choice questions were presented, and candidates had to complete this section within 170 minutes. Correct answers carried one mark, while incorrect answers attracted a penalty of 0.25 marks.

A notable change in the scoring pattern was the penalty for unattempted questions. If a candidate left more than 12 questions unanswered, a penalty of 0.05 marks per question was applied. This added another layer of strategy to the test-taking process.
